01

What is Hedge Insurance?

Hedge is a wholesale specialty insurance brokerage based in San Francisco. We serve licensed retail insurance agents and brokers placing hard-to-place commercial risks. Hedge is not an insurance carrier.

02

Who is Hedge Insurance for?

Hedge Insurance works with retail insurance agents who have a commercial account that the standard market won't quote: too coastal, too distressed, too thin a file, or too tough a class. We work broker-to-broker; we are not a direct-to-consumer carrier.

03

What kinds of risks does Hedge Insurance write?

Hedge publishes appetite guidance across specialty coverage lines, including commercial property, general and excess liability, commercial auto, inland marine, cyber and technology E&O, management liability, employment practices, environmental, medical malpractice, product liability, and miscellaneous E&O. Current fit and the approved market route are confirmed after account review.

04

Is Hedge Insurance an admitted carrier or surplus lines?

Hedge is a wholesale specialty broker, not a carrier. Depending on the account and Hedge's current approved routes, a placement may involve admitted or surplus-lines markets. A public appetite page or form is not proof of access to a named market.

05

How do brokers get appointed with Hedge Insurance?

Use the Get Appointed form and provide the requested agency and licensing information. Hedge reviews the application before activation. An appointment request, approval, activation, submission route, and bind authority are separate states.

06

How fast does Hedge Insurance respond to submissions?

Response time depends on the class, account complexity, submission completeness, and market. A submission confirmation or first response is not a quote. Hedge will identify missing information and report quote status separately.

07

What states does Hedge Insurance operate in?

Taven Insurance Services LLC dba Hedge Specialty lists California license 6018729 and NPN 22154671. State licensing and the permitted transaction route for a specific account should be confirmed with Hedge before placement activity.

08

Where is Hedge Insurance based?

Hedge Insurance is headquartered in San Francisco, California, at 2261 Market Street, Suite 18450, San Francisco, CA 94114. The team works US business hours and accepts submissions Monday through Friday.

09

Who founded Hedge Insurance?

Hedge Insurance was founded in 2026 by Luke Button (Co-founder & CEO) and Luke Rosa (Co-founder & COO). Luke Button previously founded Fernstone, an AI-powered retail insurance brokerage. Luke Rosa was Head of Scaled Systems at Traba. Both founders are actively on every account.

10

What makes Hedge Insurance different?

Hedge combines public appetite and form resources with broker-led placement review and accountable follow-through. The public tools help a retail broker prepare the file, while Hedge confirms the current route and handles the actual placement workflow.
