Adaptive Insurance

Start with the loss your main property policy leaves behind.

Adaptive’s commercial offering lists power-outage protection, deductible buy-back, equipment breakdown and restaurant recovery products. [1]

Hedge’s take

Adaptive is worth considering when an insured has a specific financial gap around power outages, equipment failure or a large property deductible. The useful starting point is the uncovered expense and trigger, not simply adding another property limit.

The detail that can change the fit

A parametric payout follows a defined trigger. It is not automatically equal to the business’s actual loss, and other Adaptive products use different terms and availability.

Beyond the product list

What stands out, and why it matters.

Choose the outage trigger against a real operating timeline.

GridProtect lets the client select an outage-duration threshold and coverage amount. [2]

Work out when stock, appointments or production become financially painful. Then ask how the policy measures duration and verifies the event, including interruptions, restoration and any causes that do not qualify.

Check for a mismatch between payout and loss.

GridProtect’s description uses a pre-agreed payment once the specified outage event is verified. [2]

An actual loss below the trigger or larger than the payment can still leave the client exposed. Compare the selected terms with the likely financial impact and any utility-interruption coverage already carried.

Deductible buy-back needs the primary policy beside it.

Adaptive lists wind, hail and hurricane deductible buy-back as a commercial offering. [1]

Provide the underlying deductible language and total insured values. Confirm which perils, loss events and deductible calculations the buy-back follows instead of assuming it reduces every deductible on the property policy.

Published scope

The product facts behind the view.

  • Adaptive’s commercial offering lists power-outage protection, deductible buy-back, equipment breakdown and restaurant recovery products. [1]
  • GridProtect is a parametric power-outage product using a selected outage-duration threshold and pre-agreed coverage amount. [2]
  • The GridProtect page currently lists availability in 24 states; this is product-specific rather than a statement about every Adaptive product. [2]
  • Tokio Marine HCC announced a GridProtect partnership with Adaptive in June 2025. [5]
Pressure-test the proposal

Questions to resolve before binding.

Use these illustrative scenarios to review a proposal. They are questions to ask, not statements that a loss is covered.

Power is restored just before the selected threshold

Does the parametric trigger occur, and what financial loss would remain with the insured if it does not?

A major outage costs more than the selected payment

How was the coverage amount chosen, and what other insurance or retained funds address the balance?

A hurricane triggers several property deductibles

Which event and deductible does the buy-back respond to, and how does it coordinate with the primary adjustment?

Put the account in motion

A better submission starts here.

Hedge’s preparation guidance for this placement:

  • Identify each insured location, power dependency, backup power and the financial impact of different outage lengths.
  • For deductible buy-back, provide the primary policy, deductibles, values, perils and relevant endorsements.
  • For equipment breakdown or restaurant recovery, describe the equipment or triggering events that create the uncovered expense.

Include the named insured, locations, requested lines and limits, effective date, existing applications and available loss information. Start with what you have; we can identify what is missing.

Before you choose

The practical questions.

How do I get a quote with Adaptive Insurance?

Choose “Get a quote with Adaptive Insurance” and tell us about your client. Hedge carries your market selection into the submission, helps complete the account and works on the available terms. You can review the proposal before making a coverage decision.

Does this profile confirm my account is eligible?

The published specialties are a starting point. State, business activity, loss history, requested coverage, limits and effective date can change eligibility. The sources used here do not provide a complete state-by-product matrix. The actual proposal and policy forms determine coverage.

Is this an independent rating of Adaptive Insurance?

No. Hedge is an insurance intermediary and has a commercial interest in helping agents place business. Our commentary explains the placement questions we draw from the cited material.
