Questions to resolve before binding.
Use these illustrative scenarios to review a proposal. They are questions to ask, not statements that a loss is covered.
A large loss reaches the excess layer
Which policy responds first, what exhausts that policy, and do defense costs affect the amount available to reach the proposed layer?
A foreign subsidiary faces a claim
Which entity is sued, where must the claim be handled and which local or program policy is expected to respond?
The client keeps a significant retention
Who funds and administers a claim within that retention, and what happens if loss development is worse than the budget?
A better submission starts here.
Hedge’s preparation guidance for this placement:
- State the liability lines, desired attachment points and how much risk the client intends to retain. Include the current program structure, loss runs and claims-development information.
- For international work, identify each legal entity, location and contract, and explain which operations are insured locally.
- For management or professional liability, distinguish governance responsibilities from the actual services sold and include relevant claims or circumstances.
Include the named insured, locations, requested lines and limits, effective date, existing applications and available loss information. Start with what you have; we can identify what is missing.

Registration and license details identify an entity and its role. They do not by themselves establish that a particular product, state, limit or account is eligible.
The practical questions.
How do I get a quote with AIG?
Choose “Get a quote with AIG” and tell us about your client. Hedge carries your market selection into the submission, helps complete the account and works on the available terms. You can review the proposal before making a coverage decision.
Does this profile confirm my account is eligible?
The published specialties are a starting point. State, business activity, loss history, requested coverage, limits and effective date can change eligibility. The sources used here do not provide a complete state-by-product matrix. The actual proposal and policy forms determine coverage.
Is this an independent rating of AIG?
No. Hedge is an insurance intermediary and has a commercial interest in helping agents place business. Our commentary explains the placement questions we draw from the cited material. It does not report a customer satisfaction score, firsthand claims experience or an endorsement by AIG.

What stands out, and why it matters.
Primary, excess and retained risk are different buying decisions.
AIG lists primary and excess casualty separately from AIG Risk Management’s deductible, retention, captive and retrospective structures. [2]
Before comparing a premium, agree what portion of a loss remains with the client and which layer the policy must occupy. Ask who controls claims within the retention and what financial information the underwriter needs. A cheaper transfer layer may leave a different cash-flow obligation with the insured.
An international operation needs a map of the insurance program.
AIG lists foreign casualty alongside its domestic casualty offerings. [2]
Provide the countries, operating entities and contractual responsibilities rather than only a worldwide revenue total. Use that map to ask how local policies and the proposed program interact, including the point at which a local loss could reach the requested layer.
Management liability and service errors need different explanations.
AIG’s financial-lines page covers governance-related exposures and professional services for several types of organization. [3]
For a company that both advises customers and has outside investors, explain each exposure separately. A board decision, an employment allegation and a failure in paid professional work do not become the same claim simply because they sit within financial lines.
The insurer name can change the legal and placement analysis.
AIG’s legal notice separately identifies American Home, National Union, AIG Specialty, Lexington and other US insurance companies. [4]
Use the insurer actually shown on the proposal to check its role and the placement requirements. The group’s legal table is useful identity evidence, but it is not an account-specific availability or coverage confirmation.
