The product facts behind the view.
- HSB publishes commercial equipment breakdown insurance addressing equipment failure and associated business income loss or other expenses. [1]
- Its equipment breakdown page distinguishes TechAdvantage for commercial agents and brokers from reinsured equipment breakdown for insurer partners. [1]
- Cyber Suite is presented as an offering for commercial insurers to provide to their small-business customers. [2]
- TotalCyber’s published overall scope reaches businesses with revenue up to $1 billion and limits up to $5 million, while the online quoting criteria are narrower: revenue up to $25 million, aggregate limit up to $1 million and misdirected payment fraud limit up to $250,000 for an annual term. The page excludes New York. [3]
Questions to resolve before binding.
Use these illustrative scenarios to review a proposal. They are questions to ask, not statements that a loss is covered.
A failed refrigeration system closes the business
Which equipment breakdown and interruption provisions would apply to the failed components, temporary refrigeration and time required to resume trading? Review the proposed forms against the repair and recovery sequence.
A processor’s computer attack prevents deliveries
Does the TotalCyber proposal recognize this dependency within its supplier or receiver wording, and what income loss can be demonstrated? Identify the provider and the reason operations stop.
A business outgrows the TotalCyber portal criteria
If revenue or requested limits exceed the online criteria, is a separately underwritten TotalCyber proposal available for this industry? Compare the requested coverage with the product appetite rather than treating a portal result as the final underwriting answer.

Hedge’s preparation guidance for this placement:
- List equipment and control systems that can stop operations, their replacement or repair lead times, and the income and extra expense consequences of a breakdown.
- Identify the proposed HSB product and route: TechAdvantage, equipment breakdown embedded through an insurer, Cyber Suite through an insurer, or TotalCyber. Supply the corresponding quote or existing policy forms.
- For TotalCyber, provide revenue, requested limits, industry, critical suppliers, system recovery arrangements and payment-verification procedures; identify whether the request fits the published online criteria.
Include the named insured, locations, requested lines and limits, effective date, existing applications and available loss information. Start with what you have; we can identify what is missing.

HSB’s legal disclosure lists these three insurers and their Connecticut domiciles. The group disclosure does not identify which entity issues every product described here; use the quote and policy declarations to establish the actual insurer. [4]
HSB’s equipment breakdown materials distinguish agent/broker TechAdvantage from reinsured business. Coverage provided through another insurer should be evaluated under that insurer’s policy and endorsements, not assumed to be a separate direct HSB policy. [1]
Registration and license details identify an entity and its role. They do not by themselves establish that a particular product, state, limit or account is eligible.
The practical questions.
How do I get a quote with HSB (Hartford Steam Boiler)?
Choose “Get a quote with HSB (Hartford Steam Boiler)” and tell us about your client. Hedge carries your market selection into the submission, helps complete the account and works on the available terms. You can review the proposal before making a coverage decision.
Does this profile confirm my account is eligible?
The published specialties are a starting point. State, business activity, loss history, requested coverage, limits and effective date can change eligibility. The sources used here do not provide a complete state-by-product matrix. The actual proposal and policy forms determine coverage.

What stands out, and why it matters.
A repair bill does not measure the full breakdown exposure.
HSB’s commercial equipment breakdown materials discuss critical equipment failure together with business income loss and other expenses. [1]
For a single machine that controls production or refrigeration, ask how long diagnosis, parts and recommissioning would take. Compare the proposed income and expense provisions with that interruption, including the cost of temporary workarounds. Insuring the machine’s value alone may leave the most consequential question unanswered.
TechAdvantage and reinsurance are different ways HSB reaches the risk.
The equipment breakdown page identifies TechAdvantage for commercial agents and brokers separately from reinsured commercial equipment breakdown. [1]
When HSB supports an insurer’s policy, start with that policy’s endorsement and claims instructions. When reviewing a TechAdvantage quote, use that quote’s forms. The presence of HSB expertise behind both routes does not make their contract terms identical.
Cyber Suite and TotalCyber need separate comparisons.
Cyber Suite is marketed to commercial insurer partners. TotalCyber separately publishes agent quoting criteria and coverage details. [2] [3]
A business may encounter HSB cyber protection as part of another insurer’s offering or as a TotalCyber proposal. Identify which is on the table before comparing limits, response services or loss triggers. Do not transfer a feature described for one product to the other.
A cyber interruption need not begin inside the insured’s network.
TotalCyber describes income loss from a computer attack on specified suppliers or receivers, and separately describes system-failure income loss from unintentional outages lasting more than eight hours. [3]
Ask which external businesses qualify under the supplier provision, and distinguish a malicious attack from an accidental outage. An interruption at a vendor and a failure of the insured’s own system can involve different definitions, timing requirements and evidence of loss.
